South Americans – Day 2
by Nuno Caminada

Beautiful sunny day, with steady winds blowing from the south at 6 to 8 knots on a flat sea. The race officer left early to check the conditions on the outside course, but found it riddled by heavy swells and again set the course inside the Bay.

Without the severe tide conditions and after a cancelled start, on the first downwind mark it was Ainslie, followed by Prada and Marin Misura, which seemed very comfortable at the bay today. The winds remained steady and the tide river started to flow into the bay by mid race. At 15:03, on the finishing line of the first regatta the lead belonged to Misura, followed by Trujillo, Ainslie, Simpson and Burrows.

The wind shifted a little to southwest and the race course was quickly updated, in time for the second regatta. The fleet went for the Flamengo Beach to avoid the tide and after rounding the upwind mark and coming back for the second buoy it was Misura again on the lead, followed by Devoti, Burrows, Kuzsnereiwicz and Florent.

The wind picked up a bit, up to 8-10 knots with gusts on the 12 knots range. At the finishing line the lead belonged to Misura, with Luca Devoti holding on to the second place, followed by Burrows, Simpson and Ainslie.
